Argentina, Buenos-Aires. A highlight at the Swiss Embassy

The Swiss ambassador to Argentina, Hans-Ruedi Bortis, recently hosted an important reception in Buenos Aires to highlight the work of the Shoonem Foundation. The event raised the profile of huemul conservation efforts in the Alto Río Senguer.

Our Founding Director, Christoph F. Schaer, coordinated the meeting, highlighting Ganydar's ongoing commitment to supporting Shoonem's initiatives, both through advice and significant fundraising.

The Switzerland-Chubut link

It's important to note that our commitment goes beyond mere conservation. For over a decade, the Schaer family has been working on a ranch near Paso de Indios, dedicated to the production of fine organic Merino wool. This project rests on three fundamental pillars:

  1. Enhancing the human team
  2. Protecting animal welfare
  3. Ecosystem conservation

Our Natura initiative

Through our Natura initiative, Ganydar works closely with the protected Shoonem-Alto Río Senguer municipal park. Our efforts include:

  • Infrastructure creation and maintenance
  • Sustainable tourism development
  • Working with scientists to preserve the huemul

International recognition

Ambassador Bortis praised the joint work carried out by the Chubut government, the municipality of Alto Río Senguer and the Shoonem Foundation. He stressed the importance of this project for Switzerland, which considers environmental protection to be a priority on the international agenda.

Future prospects

The mayor of Alto Río Senguer, Miguel Mongilardi, expressed his gratitude for this international recognition. He spoke of the encouraging prospects for the future, including the potential growth of the tourism sector in the region, offering a distinctive brand in conservation tourism.

Your continued support is enabling these significant advances in huemul conservation and the sustainable development of the region. We thank you warmly for your commitment to our cause.

Sincerely,
The Ganydar team.
